Who I am and why I do Sashiko embroidery
Mi chiamo Donatella, sono nata a Roma tanti anni fa ma sono molto giovane dentro e un po' anche fuori!
Dopo aver fatto decine di lavori diversi, sono approdata al Sashiko perché ho una passione smodata per il Giappone, per i lavori manuali e per tutto ciò che è creativo. Imparate le tecniche base, inizio a produrre oggetti di ogni tipo, di ogni colore e di ogni dimensione.
E' passato un po' di tempo da quegli inizi e ho capito che una tecnica antica di ricamo può trasformarsi in un esercizio di meditazione quotidiana per una ricerca di pace interiore. Un vero e proprio esercizio di mindfulness! E perché no, un nuovo lavoro!

My name is Donatella. I was born in Rome many years ago, but I am very young at heart and a little bit on the outside too!
After doing dozens of different jobs, I ended up at Sashiko because I have an unbridled passion for Japan, for manual work, and for everything creative. Once I learned the basic techniques, I started producing objects of all kinds, colors, and sizes.
Some time has passed since those beginnings, and I've realized that an ancient embroidery technique can be transformed into a daily meditation practice for inner peace, a true exercise in mindfulness! And why not, a new job!

Pezze di lino della nonna Grandmother's linen patches
Ho iniziato a ricamare Sashiko perché sommersa da pezze di lino antico di mia nonna: strofinacci, vecchie lenzuola, federe. Ancora oggi il lino antico è la stoffa su cui amo più ricamare, la sensazione tattile della sua ruvidezza gentile è per me come un massaggio affettuoso sulle mie mani!
I started embroidering Sashiko because I was surrounded by my grandmother's old linen cloths: tea towels, old sheets, pillowcases. Even today, old linen is the fabric I love to embroider on most. The tactile sensation of its gentle roughness is like a loving massage on my hands!
Vecchi jeans - Old denim
Il denim è un altro supporto su cui amo ricamare Sashiko. La gioia di vedere vecchi jeans ormai inutilizzabili destrutturati e rielaborati in progetti creativi mi rende molto felice! Riciclo e dono un nuovo valore a qualcosa che altrimenti sarebbe andato perso per sempre!
Denim is another material I love to embroider with Sashiko. The joy of seeing old, worn-out jeans deconstructed and reworked into creative projects makes me very happy! I recycle and give new value to something that would otherwise have been lost forever!
